Anyone looking for proof that it is a new day at Valentino need only have tuned in to the Golden Globes, where Chloë Sevigny nabbed an award in a gown by the label's new designers, Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli. It wasn't so outré that Mr. Valentino would have disapproved, but it was definitely more avant than anything the label's founder was doing before they retired. That is a lovely way to report the duo's pre-fall collection. The lace, the exquisite beadwork, and the ruffles and frills the house is known for are still there, but they are executed in a more modern (read: shorter) way. Now in their fifth season with the house (counting couture), Chiuri and Piccioli did red for the first time. But we are not talking your typical Valentino red chiffon. In lieu, they showed a patent trench, leather motorbike pants worn with a fox overweight in the same hue, as well as a party dress of red paillettes sewn onto nude tulle. Piccioli called it a "dangerous red." It is risks like those that should pay off with the young crowd they are wooing.

Top Favorite Dress Color From H And M Garden Collection
I have seen a few bits of the H&M Garden Collection on various blogs and very nice it looks too, I especially like the red flowery pieces.
Uni Girl came back last week and it seems that most of the allowance we give her to live on has been spent on clothes. I have spotted a few bits in the wash from New Look including 2 Nude colored tops and a very grown up looking dress with a thin black belt, but my favorite of all is the dress she is wearing in the picture below, she said I would be dead chuffed she has embraced the Nude trend. It is just the sort of dress I would buy, if I was her age and size, really pretty and I love the ruffle on the chest. After wearing it out that first weekend in London, Daughter 3 borrowed it to go out the other night. Big mistake, it now has chocolate on it and she has just thrown it in the wash basket. When I fished it out, I thought I had better check the washing instructions as I do with all new clothes, only to find that the item is Dry Clean only and is from the H&M Garden Collection. I am surprised that organic cotton should be dry cleaned and it annoys me no end, as Students on tight budgets can't afford dry cleaning, she moans enough about having to pay £9 every few weeks to wash and dry her clothes! Does anyone know if this is the case with all of the collection, is it all dry clean and if so, does anyone know why you can't wash organic cotton?
New Yasmin Le Bon and Limited Collection at Wallis
I have been checking out the Wallis website periodically looking for a leather t-shirt that not only had I seen in the press, but also on the wonderful blog that's not my age, but alas I have been unable to find it, which I suppose takes away the dilemma of whether a woman classed as the Wallis Demographic, would actually wear such an item. However, I did take a closer look today as I saw their Yasmin Le Bon spring collection is finally in stock. What took so long? Why wasn't it in when all the other Spring pieces hit the stores? Did they think that by keeping the customers waiting that bit longer, it may lead them to believe it is something really special? Well I am not sure I think it is. Firstly it doesn't seem to consist of many pieces, unless of course there is another drop to come and although there were two pieces I really liked (pictured below) I couldn't really see any 40 something in the floral tiered maxi dress to be honest and I am not sure I can see Mrs Le Bon in it either. YLB always looks stylish whether she is arriving at Heath row on the Red Eye or attending a Red Carpet event, she is somebody who I feel always gets it right, but I am not so sure I feel the same about her collection. I could probably visualise her in the two pieces that I really like, but not sure about the rest. I really expected more. I was hoping for wardrobe staples, mix and match pieces that YLB would put together so well and that I would see a collection that would teach me a thing or two about 40 something dressing with style and that there would be a few on trend items to keep the older fashionista's happy, in the mix.
There were however, some pieces in their Limited Collection that really made me happy. A fab leather dress (still no sign of the t-shirt), the zebra print jacket and some gorgeous tops embracing the nude and ruffle trend. I hadn't ever noticed that like good old M&S's Limited Collection, that Wallis had one as well and although there is only a small selection online, it is far more appealing to the fashion forward, than their main range which at times can seem decidedly frumpy.
The other thing I really like about Wallis is that they accept paypal (like Asos and Topshop), so you can sell your old clothes on ebay and buy directly from Wallis with the proceeds which is a bit like getting new for old, so no shopping guilt necessary!
Have you bought anything in Wallis lately and what do you think of the Yasmin Le Bon Collection?

If I never hear the song with the same name as the title of this Post, it won't be a day too soon, God it drove me nuts, but whenever I think about Red dresses it just automatically pops into my head and stays there, along with visions of Chris De Burgh - ugh!
